Dykes On Bikes Group Info
|
|
First some information on the small group that started this whole thing. Dykes On Bikes Women’s Motorcycle Contingent is a group of women, mainly lesbians, which come together mainly to organize the logistical side of riding in the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade.
They first appeared in the 1976 San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. The first time they led the parade was in 1978. 1998 is the only time that Dykes On Bikes have been on the cover of the San Fancisco GLBT Celebration Program.
Their mission statement says “San Francisco Dykes on Bikes® Women's Motorcycle Contingent is an organization committed to creating a local, national and international community of women motorcyclists and friends of women motorcyclists. Our mission is to support philanthropic endeavors in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and women's communities and beyond, and reach out to empower a community of diverse women through rides, charity events, Pride events and education.”
They meet every month, except for December and their meetings are open to any women. Dykes on Bikes Women’s Motorcycle Contingent is a small, totally volunteer group.
