Covers that dramatically convey a visual sense of a particular time period

Cover of Blairs Niles' novel Strange Brother (NY: Liveright, 1931)

Artifacts of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Interest

Items that may or may not have been intended to be of interest to LGBT people, but that now carry such interest.

Plaster wall ornament (date and manufacturer unknown). The red, lipsticked lips on the two faces suggests that these are two women kissing, as does the eye shadow on each face. A cracked copy of this ornament is held in the Lesbian Herstory Archives, and a photograph by the late Robert Giard of LHA founder, Joan Nestle, portrays her with that ornament. On OutHistory, see illustration in Nestle's Blog on History; The Kiss, 1950s-1990s.

Hand-colored postcard. Photo of two women comparing their breasts. French. More text to come.
