It's About Time!
This website in development on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history is directed by Jonathan Ned Katz, coordinated by Lynley Wheaton, and produced by The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS), headed by Sarah E. Chinn, and located at the City University of New York Graduate Center. It is funded in 2007-2008 by a grant from the Arcus Foundation. For more about OutHistory.org, see About.
Navigate Content
To date, OutHistory has 2,488 articles. Users can "Search," explore a "Random Page," or view the featured "Exhibits." To "Browse by Subject," see the list at the bottom of this page.
Discuss
All users can comment on the site by using the "Discuss" option on the Main Page top bar. Users can also comment on a particular entry by using the "Discuss” section of that entry.
Provide Content
As an experiment in history by the people, all logged in users can edit, add to, and improve any entry except those with a named author or curator. Practice editing in the Sandbox. New site content can also be created by anyone with data, documents, and citations to share. For how to contribute data, documents, citations, and edits, and to offer help with research, copyediting, administration, technology, and graphic design see Participate.
Fill in Stubs and Research Requests
Users can also search: Stub Categories (a list of all entries for which there is no or little content) and Stub Articles, and begin to fill in the data and citations. Users can also search Research Requests, and provide the missing information. Users can also create new stub entries that they would like to see filled in.
