Sweet Gum Head

Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Sweet Gum Head was a popular Atlanta bar/disco at 2284 Cheshire Bridge Road that opened in November of 1971. Notable as the place where gay entertainer Wayland Flowers and Madame got his start. It is now a straight gentlemen's club. It was owned by Frank Powell. Powell had considerable influence in Atlanta's drag and bar community. The Sweet Gum Head help once a week drag contests, which helped lead the city to become the premiere place in America for drag.[1]
