In Germany, in 1880, in a book Discovery of the Soul, by a zoologist, Gustav Jäger, Karl Maria Kertbeny's word heterosexual is used publicly for the first time. Kertbeny had contributed a chapter to the book arguing for the decriminalization of homosexuality, but the book's publisher decided it was too controversial and omitted it. Nevertheless, Jäger used Kertbeny's terminology elsewhere in the book.[1]
