Much progress has been made in the years since Stonewall, but even now many challenges remain. Virginia is a conservative state and there are always new battles to fight and new indignities and injustices to fight. The Twenty-first century in Richmond has given LGBTQ Virginians first a law, and then a constitutional amendment that prohibits any kind of relationship recognition. The legislature remains conservative and most recently we haved a state government which seems to be trying to take us backwards. There are several vanguards in this fight. Two of the strong assets the community has now is the Gay Community Center of Richmond and the Central Virginia Rainbow Partnership.
