Create an Entry: Help OutHistory Make LGBTQ and Heterosexual History

Users are encouraged to participate in creating content on OutHistory, following the site’s Contributors’ Guidelines, and the directions in its Help section. For copyright information, see Terms of Use at the bottom of this page. Any questions, email outhistory@gc.cuny.edu.

* Authors: Authors may contribute out-of-print but still valuable historical articles and books to which the copyright has reverted to the author. They may also contribute still valuable unpublished historical chapters deleted from published books, and never published historical articles. Content marked by a gray box and labeled "Protected" is volunteered by or solicited from named writers, independent scholars, institutionally-based researchers, archivists, collectors, and the public.

* Collectors: Collectors of LGBTQ artifacts of all kinds can scan and volunteer to exhibit on OutHistory selections of their most visually interesting, unique, and valuable items. To volunteer an exhibit based on a collection, email outhistory@gc.cuny.edu. For an example, also see: Jonathan Ned Katz: My Collectibles and Collecting, in progress.

* Content Providers: Content Wanted Priorities:

African American LGBT history entries
AIDS/HIV and the history of the response to the epidemic
American Colonial Era LGBT history
Asian American LGBT history entries
Bibliographies on particular historical subjects
LGBT Legal History: U.S. and Worldwide
LGBT Marriage: A History (U.S.)
LGBT Organizational Histories (U.S.)
LGBT Corporate Employee Group Histories
LGBT Governmental Employee Group Histories
LGBT Union Groups
LGBT People and the U.S. Military: A History
Lesbian American history
New York City and East Coast LGBT history
Visuals to go with all of the above

* Creators of New, Open, Collaborative Articles: All logged-on users may create new, open, collaboratively created articles by carefully choosing a title, including a date if possible, typing the title in the search box, and opening, editing, and saving the article. Please use the "Format for Open, Collaborative Entries" found in the Help section. Content on OutHistory marked by a yellow "Open" box is created collaboratively by anyone with data, documents, and source citations to share.

* Creators of New Protected Articles: All logged-on users may contribute new articles signed by them, and protected against editing by anyone but them and site administrators. To volunteer a signed, protected article email outhistory@gc.cuny.edu.

* Creators of New Timeline Entries: In "Edit" mode, at the bottom of all entries an "Article timeline" asks users to fill in "From" and "To" years, and, if available, months and days. Filling in "From" and "To" years will ensure that a "Timeline" search via "MORE" will result in a list of articles that fall within that year or years.

* Creators of New Timeline Stub Entries: Users can suggest or add a timeline stub.

* Uploaders of Content: Users can offer documents: audio recordings, court records, diaries, letters, photographs, publications, movies, video, or other evidence relevant to LGBTQ history for which permission to publish has been obtained.
