This morning a fare took me to the Champaign County Building, so I got out and asked about the grand jury."

"Any news?" asked Winston.

"It's almost an absurd comedy. Peacock won't be able to make the August convening of the grand jury, because, get this, his mother died. Next time, his secretary will say, 'the dog ate the subpoenas.'"

"They're mocking you," shouted Seth. "They're mocking Winston. They're mocking our entire movement!"

I shrugged. "Well maybe his mother really did die…But it does seem rather suspicious."

"Lawrence Johnson is a Democrat and so is his assistant Michel Peacock," stated Winston. "The Democratic Party will not turn against the police and side with homosexuals, unless there is massive pressure to do so.

The beer and the long day were getting to me and I didn’t answer Winston. The Militant article on how McGovern reneged on his promises was haunting me. With the strange behavior of Michel Peacock and every evasion he took to stall the grand jury, I was a spring winding tighter and tighter.
