This is a short look at the history of "Dykes On Bikes". However it is more of a look on how people out side the group, "Dykes On Bikes," Look at the group and its name. What feelings it ensites in people from good to bad.

Dykes On Bikes; who are they? What are they? What do they stand for? Why are they here? All of these are good questions to ask about this group of motorcycle riding women in San Francisco. But what it really boils down to is one simple question, what is in a name? The phrase “dykes on bikes” has been used in many ways. Some ways are empowering and uplifting, while others use it as an insult or to disgrace. Either way the phrase “dykes on bikes” has made it in to our every day vocabulary. I will show how people have used the name/phrase “dykes on bikes” and how this small group went to battle for the name. All of this will explain how something so simple as a name/phrase can go from being controversial to becoming embraced.
