GAYTASTIC! Eddy, Scott, Kip, Tom, Evie, Lois, Dave, Kim, Eric, Anthony, and so many other wonderful people! I was at OSU from 1983-86. We changed from GPA to GALA. Evie Smith and I were Presidents of GALA at some point. A few of us were OUT and were involved in doing a panel forum on campus each term. Once, we all sat in the audience initially. Then Evie came on stage dressed in a stereotypical fashion. She asked the panel to come up to the stage. Wearing my letterman's jacket, several jocks sitting next to me were unaware I was gay. The concept was to highlight bias, whether intentional or not. It worked. After that panel, Lois VanLear secretly said, "thank you". I believe she was a Religious Studies major. Later her partner and Lois appeared on Phil Donahue. We were OUT and it seemed to give others hope. The Local Men's Group run by Tom and Kip kept us going. We had social meetings and movie nights and so on. There is one Barometer published picture where Mark Hater, the opposition, is yelling at me and I am turning the volume up on my headset. Once Lois was willing and able to help, she took him on on his terms on a religious basis. We all learned a great deal from her. So much was happening - amazing music, the Bagwan, GRID-HTLV-HIV-AIDS-AZT, hate and love and education.
