re: James Orville Bloss. I've looked high and low for a picture John William Sterling's special friend James Orville Bloss. Can't locate a picture of Bloss anywhere. Anyone have a picture to share. Or anyone have any ideas where I might a picture of Bloss. Thanks. Jim Smith

There are also references to Sterling in two books about the president of New York City National Bank (Citibank), James Stillman, who was an extremely close friend and business confidant as well as neighbor of Sterling. The books are:

The Portrait of a Banker: James Stillman 1850-1918. By Anna Robeson Burr

The First Billion: The Stillmans and the National City Bank. By John K. Winkler

The second book is less reverential in its treatment of Stillman. Book books reveal something of Sterling's eccentric personality and the source of his extensive wealth.
