Jump to navigationJump to searchOn May 11, 1890, the New York Press, a Republican Party newspaper, published a sensational story about the Slide, a bar at 157 Bleecker Street, which it headlined "The Wickedest Place in New York."
"At midnight in the Slide" (New York Herald, January 5, 1892). The earliest-known picture of the inside of a United States bar in which male prostitutes gathered to meet male customers.[1]
