A search of the F.B.I. website indicates that the investigative file titled “Liberace Part 3 of 6” contains the search terms "lesbians", "homosexuals" (meaning male homosexuals), “queers”, and a reference to "the 'gay life'".[1]

These words appear in a section headed:

GENERAL INVESTIGATIVE INTELLIGENCE FILE
SEMI ANNUAL REPORT
For Period October 15, 1955 through April 15, 1956.

This report contains a section “H.” on “Notorious Types and Places of Amusement”. And this includes a part headed “Greenwich Village”, containing the following information:

A majority of the bars and restaurants in this area cater to lesbians and homosexuals, quite a few of whom reside in the area and are not inhibited in the pursuit of their amorous conquests. In the bars and restaurants there will also be found a segment of the tourist trade who go to the Village to observe the lesbians and queers at play and to enjoy the atmosphere of the “gay life”.
The following places in the Greenwich Village section cater to the lesbians and homosexuals.
