When we gay guys think of Madonna it's doubtful the word "mainstream" comes to mind. We like her for her sexy, provocative ways with lyrics, settings, and costumes. Yet, there she was on the cover of the April 2000 issue of Good Housekeeping that hit newsstands March 16, 2000. Good Housekeeping????

Who knows the reason behind her decision -- it's not as if she were following in Rod Stewart's footsteps and doing a CD of standards that needed to be promoted to Middle America. (Her CD Music came out later in the year.) But, for Good Housekeeping it was a great way to reach a younger generation of reader, sending the message that "we're not your mother's Good Housekeeping".

At the time Madonna had a three-year-old daughter, Lourdes, and was pregnant with British film director Guy Ritchie's child - a boy named Rocco, born on August 11 (5 days before Madonna's birthday). She married Ritchie at the end of the year. She's adopted two other children since then and divorced Ritchie.

Despite this cover, it didn't mean Madge had put her provocative ways behind her as three years after the Good Housekeeping cover she she caused a stir at the MTV Music Video Awards by French kissing Britney Spears. No word on whether her "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" was revoked.
